We were blown away when we first heard this new track by South London ‘future-funk’ musician Jodie Abacus, and after a few more listens it’s still lost none of its impact.
She’s In Love With The Weekend is infectious and sublime on so many levels, delivering funk, soul and disco with a quirky twist. It’s the latest release from an artist whose reputation is growing fast thanks to widespread radio and blog support for previous tracks Hot Kitchen and I’ll Be That Friend, as well as one of our favourites, Halfway to Mexico.
Of She’s In Love With The Weekend, Abacus says: “The song was written about someone that I like who is a party girl, but she really has no ‘off-switch’; she’s in Miami mode all the time. It’s kind of a sad song truly – I like her, but I’m concerned for her because she’s addicted to partying, and I don’t know where she’ll end up.”
The talented performer’s profile is certainly going to be rising dramatically over the next few months as he provides the support for several tour dates with Laura Mvula on her UK tour in May, as well as her headline date at Somerset House in London on 10 July. You can also catch him at this summer’s festivals Lovebox (London), The Great Escape (Brighton), Truck (Oxfordshire), and the Parklife Weekender (Manchester).
