Liverpool-based Clean Cut Kid brought their UK tour to Southampton to deliver an electric live set at The Loft. The crowd cheered with excitement as the band arrived on stage, and continued their considerable enthusiasm for the band’s indie-pop anthems throughout the night.
Runaway opened the set, an upbeat track which got the crowd jumping about and singing along instantly. They continued to power through an energetic set, performing songs from their debut album Felt, which was released earlier this year, including Stay, We Used to be In Love and Evelyn.
Leaving You Behind and Time to Let You Go showed off frontman Mike Halls’ ability to harmonise with wife and bandmate Evelyn Halls.
The way the band interact with one another onstage and with their audience clearly shows they love what they do. Their great stage presence is helped by Mike Halls’ regular banter with the crowd. Their musical ability also shines in their live performance, with Halls’ impressive vocals and polished guitar solos, highlighted in songs such as Brother of Mine.
Album title track, Felt, and Pick Me Up were two energetic songs which closed the set. The band returned to perform an encore of their most popular release, Vitamin C, which the crowd jumped wildly to – as did the band onstage. With their infectious guitar hooks, drum beats, and heartfelt lyrics, Clean Cut Kid make it hard not to want to dance. If their album and live show is anything to go by, we can expect bigger things in the future.
