Just a couple of days before the launch of their debut album You Are Someone Else, Brighton indie-pop’s rising stars Fickle Friends played just down the road from home at Portsmouth’s Wedgewood Rooms.
Lead singer Natti Shiner was feeling under the weather and battling illness but clearly determined not to let that spoil the party – helped by the band’s tour manager who brought her a shot of something from the bar (‘for medicinal purposes’ of course), administered to cries of ‘down it’ from the crowd.
It seemed to do the trick anyway as the band – buoyant at the prospect of their album finally seeing the light of day later in the week – gave their all as ever. Prolific live performers, they somehow manage to keep the energy levels sky high throughout. With a flawless setlist including their big hits Swim, Glue, Cry Baby and Hard To Be Myself, it’s clear that a BIG festival season beckons.
