As comeback tracks go, you won’t find much better than this. After what seems like an eternity away, Friendly Fires have returned with this absolute peach of tropical indie-pop and we’ve not stopped playing it for days.
The Hertfordshire trio have not released an album since 2011’s Pala but are firmly back in action now, having just played live dates in the past week or so in Leeds, Norwich and a huge show at Brixton Academy last night.
Although ‘new’ as a release, Love Like Waves will be familiar to fans of the band who may well have caught it being performed live by the band in the past, but even so, this is sounding so fresh and it superbly whets the appetite for what’s hopefully to come from the band this year – a decade on from when they first emerged onto the scene with their debut self-titled album.
