A band that seems to make further progress with each new release are sticking to form with new track Pop-Ups (Sunny at the Weekend). Marsicans have struck gold with this one, not least since it will doubtless go down a storm at their various festival appearances over the coming months, including Barn on the Farm, Kendall Calling, and Reading/Leeds among others.
Speaking about the new single, frontman James Newbigging says: “I came back into the rehearsal room one day and found [drummer] Cale playing a riff on my guitar. When I got home from rehearsal with the riff stuck in my head, I was watching a film online and got a pop-up ad along the lines of ‘Wow, look how much money I’ve made’. It got me thinking about the people in life that make all these false promises to you and try and get you into their crazy schemes. Lyrically, the song is basically just poking fun at those chancers.”
It really is indie-pop at its best. Polished but not too much, and delivered with just the right levels of production to suggest that the band know when enough is enough. And to cap it all… this weekend really is going to be sunny!
