For some reason or another, it’s quite unusual for Sync to feature a ballad. As diverse as our coverage is, there is a tendency towards the somewhat faster-paced side of things, but every once in a while, a song comes along that breaks through some of our usual choices.
The new one from Gabrielle Aplin is a pretty powerful effort. My Mistake is the first song to be taken from her forthcoming third album due for release next year, and is the first new material to come through a new global deal between record label AWAL and Aplin’s own imprint Never Fade Records.
The song is a beautiful and raw piano ballad in which Aplin bares her soul about her shortcomings. About the powerful piece, she says: “I’m really excited to release My Mistake. I’ve always found writing a therapeutic escape from real life, but this song gently forced me to be brutally honest. This is a song about finding a strange sense of comfort in admitting to yourself that you’re not feeling 100% and completely owning it.”
Aplin will be performing live at the annual celebration of her label Never Fade Records at Union Chapel on 4 December. Never Fade artists and friends will join her, including Hannah Grace, Lauren Aquilina, Lewis Watson, Orla Gartland, Sonny and others – tickets here.
