New York post-punk indie-rockers Interpol have been doing their thing for over a decade, turning out inventive, immersive material every step of the way – although at times they have seemed a little hamstrung by the considerable task of trying to live up to heights they achieved with their 2004 second album Antics.

In August, they unleashed sixth studio album, Marauder, and in many ways it marks something of a renaissance for the trio (Paul Banks, Daniel Kessler, and Sam Fogarino). The LP gives the sense of a band that has liberated itself from constraints that seemed to stifle their previous two long plays El Pintor and Interpol, and that new-found sense of creative freedom was on full display throughout the band’s run of live shows in support of the new material. We caught a couple of in-stores in Kingston and East London, both of which saw Interpol revel in their new material while at the same time proved them to be comfortable in giving due attention to the back catalogue highlights so beloved of long-terms fans.

While immense track The Rover has perhaps garnered more widespread attention, our highlight from Marauder is both named Number 10 and coincidentally also sits at number 10 on our list of 2018’s very best, from an album that time will doubtless prove to be another enduring listen from this uniquely dark-yet-thrilling band.
