Describing themselves as “everything you ever wanted from a 90’s dream”, The Van T’s have a very big sound. Their stonking single Control is out now, and firmly on the Sync List. We caught up with Hannah (guitars, vocals) to hear more about their recent performances and future plans…
SYNC: Can you tell us a bit about Control?
HANNAH: We wrote that song under a year ago; essentially, about myself and my sister who have been in and out of harsh relationships and the feeling when you come out of them is exhilarating, the freedom, and you regain yourself and recuperate. It doesn’t even have to be relationships, it could be friendships…
The Van T’s – Control
SYNC: How was your gig at Two Tribes Brewery?
HANNAH: Really busy. The weather was terrible, which I think drew people in. We really enjoyed it. There was a good energy. Thanks to everyone involved – and we had The Great Escape the day after!
SYNC: What was the last gig you saw?
HANNAH: Fontaine’s D.C. at King Tut’s. They were really good. I also saw Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard, a band from Cardiff at The Great Escape. They sound a bit like T-Rex.
SYNC: Who are your musical inspirations?
HANNAH: Aw, there’s too many. The one I always say is Ty Segall. He’s been in a few bands, like Fuzz. [His sound is] quite grungey. Inspired me to get a mustang and a [guitar] pedal.
SYNC: What are your plans for the future? Do you have any live dates or new music coming up?
HANNAH: We have songs recorded. We released Control in May and are planning to release a new single in a few months. We are playing in Stirling (June 13), TruckFest (26-18 July), Y Not Festival (25-28 July) and supporting the Foo Fighters in Glasgow (17 August).
Control is available now.
